From GibMap
The Commission was established by Royal Charter in 1917, with duties to mark and maintain the graves of the members of the forces of the Commonwealth who were killed in the two World Wars, built memorials to those who have no known grave, and keep records and registers.Over 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces died as a result of the two World Wars. 900,000 are commemorated on headstones over their identified graves; the remainder who have no known grave are commemorated on memorials. These war graves are in 140 different countries, one site of which is a specially designated plot of land in Gibraltar's North Front Cemetery.
