Devil's Tower

Devil's Tower played a significant role in the Rock's defences. A tower erected along the coast stood on the isthmus near the eastern end of this road. It is said that Spaniards used this tower to warn off pirates and other attackers sailing towards Gibraltar or the rest of Spain by lighting bonfires and alerting defenders further up the coast.
