Dockyard

The construction of the dockyard, which is now managed commercially, commenced in 1894. The works encompassed the building of the yard, extension of the South Mole, the Detached Mole and the Commercial (North) Mole. The dockyard contains three dry docks, and was originally opened during the eighteenth century. Several of Nelson's ships, including H. M. S. Victory were repaired and refitted here after the Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805.
King Edward VII Dock (No. 3) This dock was named by the King in 1903 during the first ever visit to Gibraltar by a British Sovereign. The first ship to dock here was the battleship "King Edward VII". Length of dock 251 feet.
Queen Alexandra Dock (No. 2) Queen Alexandra named this dock after herself when she came out in the Royal yacht "Victoria and Albert" in 1905. Length of dock when built 450 feet 10 inches.
Prince and Princess of Wales Dock (No. 1) This dock was also known as the "Prince of Wales" dock in 1906. Length of dock when built 851 feet 9 inches.
