Built on the old reinforced Spanish walls which can still be seen today, Parson's Lodge Battery dates back to 1875. It has recently been refurbished by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and the Friends of Gibraltar, with work being done on the former ammunition stores and living quarters which are situated below the battery, as well as on the old gun emplacements which formerly housed three 10-inch Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) guns weighing 18-tons. These guns were removed in 1889 and 1892, and further works were added during the Second World War. This battery dominates the southern point of Rosia Bay.
