Major William Green R.E., who was Chief Engineer during the Great Siege, lived in Engineer Lane and found the town so oppressive in Summer that he built himself a Summer residence. He was stationed in Gibraltar for over 23 years and left children and grandchildren here. His picture still hangs in the Breakfast Room at the Mount.
